How to Read a School Fee Schedule Before Admission

Two school fee totals can look similar while covering different things. Before comparing amounts, find out what is included, what is charged separately and which services your family will actually use. Work from the school's current written schedule rather than an old screenshot or a figure shared by another parent.

Separate costs by type

Create columns for one-time admission charges, recurring tuition or term fees, learning materials and optional services. Keep transport, uniforms, meals and activities separate unless the schedule explicitly includes them. Record the payment dates as well as the totals, because several expenses may fall in the same month.

Questions to ask the accounts office

  • Which charges are compulsory for the selected class?
  • Are books, notebooks and uniforms included or purchased separately?
  • Is transport quoted for the full year or a shorter period?
  • Do activity charges cover all participation or only specified events?
  • What written withdrawal and refund conditions apply?
  • How are payments acknowledged, and whom should we contact about discrepancies?

Build a comparison you can use

For example, a family using its own transport should compare the school costs separately from its travel budget. Another family may need the school vehicle and an additional activity. Neither family's relevant total is automatically the headline tuition figure.

Keep copies of the schedule, receipts and written clarifications in one folder. If a line item is unclear, ask for its purpose before agreeing to it. This guide does not quote MVM's fees: obtain the current schedule directly from the school for your child's class and intended joining period.
